Haun’s Mill Massacre Site

As part of my explorations, or rather preparations, for this trip, I came across a rather out of the way Pin in a field by a stream. It was marked Hawn’s Mill, and had a Cemetery marker near it. On the list it went. Then I read a bit about it. There was a small Mormon settlement here in the 1830s. They built a mill on the creek. In October, 1830 a 240 strong vigilante militia arrived, and slaughtered them 17 of them. Including executing two young children they found hiding! I couldn’t find the cemetery, the map indicated it was over in an area with both corn and high weeds. But, reading the Memorial in a nearby town, if there is anything at that marker, it is The Well where 14 of the bodies were (I imagine) unceremoniously dumped into. 😦
